Jo Martin
Course Advisor for: All TOCES and BTEC Higher Education programmes

Qualifications: MSc, BSc

“My background is in science, having completed a BSc and MSc, and my main scientific interest is life sciences, particularly related to animals and the environment.

I am a qualified teacher and have been teaching for 16 years on a wide variety of courses, including animal science and animal behaviour involving many different species, including horses. Prior to that I held a training role within a pharmaceutical company, and before that I worked as a veterinary nurse.

As well as tutoring for TOCES and the Open University and local Further Education colleges, I also write distance learning course materials, in a range of science, health, environmental and animal related subjects. I enjoy researching this field and writing about it, and I have a particular research interest in how science and technology knowledge can be used to improve the sport of equestrianism and equine welfare and health.

I have been involved with horses since I was a child, and currently have two of my own, a traditional cob and a cheeky Welsh pony.”
